Is an eyelid surgery procedure right for you?

Perhaps you have one single lid and the other is double and you’d simply prefer that they match, or you’d like to have creases to make your eyes appear larger. Impaired vision due to single lids is also a common reason to opt for this procedure. If you fall under these or any category where eyelid appearance is a concern, then this surgery is right for you.

About the eyelid surgery procedure

Double eyelids are created for you, through this procedure, by adding creases to your upper eyelids. There are incisional and non-incisional techniques when it comes to double eyelid surgery, and the risks vary between the two options. Infection, irritation, scarring, and cysts can occur, but Dr. Washington will be with you every step of the way to handle any unpleasant after effects. Incisional surgery involves marking the double eyelid line, making several incisions, removing fat, tissue, and muscle from between these incisions, and then closing the incisions with stitches or skin glue. The non-incisional procedure entails making small punctures along the double eyelid line and using sutures to form and tighten the desired crease. These sutures will remain in place, hidden under the skin, and do not need to be removed at a later date.

What should I expect after an eyelid surgery procedure?

Healing from the incisional surgery to the point of resuming normal activity takes only a couple of weeks, but full-length recovery time for this procedure is several months. Should you opt for non-incisional, you can expect to fully recover within a few weeks.
